Home Alarm System

Is Your Home and Family Safe?

You may have read my article on Security Systems. It describes security systems for your home and business, but focuses more on the security of your pride and joy, your home. Key points were mentioned about the types of alarm systems that can be purchased to safeguard your house and your possessions. This article on the Home Alarm System goes into the different types in more detail and hopefully will allow you to make an informed decision when choosing the right alarm for your home.

There are different types of alarms. Some are basic and act simply as a deterrent for a would-be intruder. If the alarm is set off, there is no contact or monitored system in place and there will be no follow up from Police, Fire department or other authorities   .....  Simply put, this alarm is a bit of a bluff! There are, however, other security systems that are monitored 24 hours a day and if activated, the correct response Department will be sent to help, whether that is police, Fire or medical response. Whilst these are of course more expensive, they are more foolproof and give absolute peace of mind.

A Home Alarm System can cater for all size houses, and the more advanced services include surveillance around the perimeter of the home as well as high tech services inside the home.

Home Alarm Systems are constantly changing and new technology is being developed.

The Wireless system, Pre-wired system and 2-way Voice service were all mentioned in the article titled Security System. I won’t repeat the information here, but feel free to click the link to find out more.

Any of the systems are fairly easy to install by a professional, although wireless systems are more economical and quicker to install. You can choose to install single purpose alarms (eg: burglary only) or combination systems, such as burglary and fire protection. Of course, as the sophistication of the unit increases, so too does the price.

The purpose of the 2-way Voice service is that if an intruder breaks into your house and you have this particular unit installed already, a trained operator can speak through the speaker and ask you for a password to turn the alarm off. If the intruder doesn’t leave at this time, the monitoring company can listen in on the 2-way system and confirm suspicious activity. Their next step is to notify the police. If a hostage situation were to occur, and the burglar forces the occupant to turn the alarm off, a fake code would be entered, and the monitoring company would again call the appropriate authorities. This of course is the worst case scenario. Quite often an alarm system may be set off by the owner by mistake. Rather than an expensive call out, the owner can verify the password with the company operator over the 2-way system.

Home Alarm SystemOne thing to be mindful of is to choose a home alarm system that can distinguish between a human and a family pet. If you have a pet (usually under 80lbs), then there are security systems out there that allow your pet to roam around the house without being detected and without setting off any alarms unnecessarily.  This is because the newer Home Alarm Systems have advanced technology to measure the weight or the size of the object causing the alarm to go off. Thus, insects, mice and small pets can no longer set off alarms and cause nuisance alarms. The good news for a person buying a home alarm system is that Insurance companies offer discounts to their customers who install a monitored security system into their homes.

The good news for buyers also is that companies who specialise in Home Alarm Systems also offer competitive rates. All you need to do is shop around for the price you can afford and the service you want.

The simplicity and ready to use ease of these products means do it yourself installation is becoming the widespread practice. There is no reason why you cannot put one or more sensor in every room that is being wired for the home security system.

Home Alarm Systems are sold by many companies. They are regularly evolving with the increased use of technology. The bottom line, no matter what home alarm system you choose is that crime is on the rise and now is an important time to look at the safety of your home and most definitely, your family.
